This page is now obsolete

Because of problems with the later versions of the Java Runtime Environment, this page is now unlikely to work properly on most PCs.

01/08/2007 Problems for PCs running the latest versions of JRE (Java Runtime Environment) :-.

If your PC has the latest version of Java installed on it, you may find that you get a picture that does not change.  This is due to an incompatibility between your version of Java and the Webcam firmware.

27/12/2008 Further information on Java Webcam Problem :-.

This bug listed on the Sun Java website as a bug in JRE 1.6.  The bug status is Closed, Verified, bug allegedly fixed in version 1.6.0_10 - click here for details.  However, having tried the recently released version 1.6.0.11, the problem is not fixed (as you can see from recent comments on the above link).  Thank you very much Sun Microsystems.

For further discussion of the bug, including how to fix it (which basically involves un-installing JRE 1.6 and reverting to JRE 1.5) see the Sun Developer Forum.

This page uses a Java Applet to show a sequence of still images.  The refresh rate is about 1 frame per second on Broadband.

No squirrels on camera the moment?

Try out the Recorded Highlights page.  You can view animated sequences of still images for any of the last 7 days.
